Background:
NORD/LB is one of the largest and the oldest commercial banks in Germany that has recently extended its strategy to Eastern Europe and particularly to Baltic Sea region. NORD/LB has already acquired two banks in Lithuania and Latvia and is considering the plans for further active development. Some of the key NORD/LB strategy attributes are customer focus, high reliability, hundred years' old traditions as well as ability to innovate. The focus towards the technology and the deployment of the Internet for developing effective enabling solutions is among the main priorities of the company.
Objective:
Vide Infra was hired to develop authentic and genuine website that would help to instantly position NORD/LB among the leading competitors. The website should look and feel utterly original, be modern and at the same time traditional in order to convey the bank's marketing message. The user experience should be tailored to make the visitor to understand immediately that he is browsing the website of the active and dynamic industry leader.

The website should be highly flexible in terms of functionality, content and visual outlook editing as well as be easy to maintain for regular computer users. The website should enable customer communications and FAQ database maintenance. All website features and graphic ideas should be easily customizable for deployment in different geographical regions.

What is the most important website ingredient? A design? A functionality? Both probably?

In reality it is content, the actual text you put online for your customers. While the texts were prepared by the customer we have focused on design and features. Those start with overall creative idea; in our case we couldn't get too carried away with creativity since the website should have to be business-oriented after all. So we were building around the contradiction of old tradition and roots of NORD/LB and bank's modern high-tech strategy. Hence the design should embrace both traditional and modern minimal elements. The general look and feels should be solid and traditional but at the same time personalized and life.

The main ideas for the graphic design were layered elements, soft and minimal gamma, simple white background and screen-wide template.

The bank offer was presented using simple product presentation and specially created Customer Needs presentation. Each need, including savings, car purchase, payments and many others was first sketched on paper, then filmed, edited and implemented on the website. The general content presentation was enriched with Service Assistants - a series of specially filmed images.

To blend the bank offer with some general content we have included general financial vocabulary and a collection of rare stock certificates - specially gathered together historic financial documents that made a significant impact on the way live and do business.

Project Mantra:
While working on the project the team was involved into heavy Futurama retrospection. One of the most amusing episodes contained the intergalactic pet contest, which involved a giant toad with hypnotic abilities, which, as a matter of course, helped the creature to win the contest. The scene was so funny that it soon became everyone's favorite. "All glory to the Hypnotoad" became the ultimate project mantra, being repeated by everyone on different occasions and causing team members to smile.
